Our Jr. High Youth Group is for students in grades 6 through 8. Confirmation classes are held on Sunday mornings during the 10:30 AM service.
In the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), confirmation is the public affirmation of baptism and faith. At Promise, confirmation is taught over 3 years during 6th-8th grade.The formal instruction that leads to confirmation is founded in Martin Luther’s Small Catechism and is designed to clarify Christian doctrine and teach the life of the Church to Christians including:
- Who is God?
- What is sin?
- Who is Jesus?
- Who is the Holy Spirit?
- What is Faith?
- What is Baptism?
- What is Holy Communion?
- What is Law/Gospel?
- What is Heaven and Hell?
Guiding Principles:
- Confirmation is not graduation but part of a lifelong learning in faith. “Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end” Psalm 119:33
- Confirmation is an opportunity for confirmands to confess for themselves what their parents confessed for them at the time of their baptism. Confirmands are welcomed to the Lord's table for communion following confirmation. "For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.” Romans 1:11-12
- Confirmation depends upon parents (with support from the pastor) to teach their children about the faith we have in Jesus as they model taking communion with them. "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
Additionally, we host exciting Jr. High Events every third Friday of the month from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where students can connect, have fun, and grow in their faith together.
